inception.
It all started with an idea.
After my last marriage failed (hey, don’t judge — at least I have a 100% success rate at something), I found myself alone and worse for the wear. I missed the man who’s hands I held while we promised to grow old together. I missed the plans we’d never follow through on, the trips we never took, and the grandkids we would never have. I missed him. Well, not the version of him I knew at the end. He had become someone I no longer recognized. But in the beginning — wow. He was fun, spontaneous, full of love and life and it showed. Everyone who knew him would say that he was ‘one of the most genuinely nice’ people they had ever met. I thought so too. I suppose maybe he was, but people change, and he certainly did. And I know I did too. In the beginning, we used to have steamy make-out sessions in his truck. We’d go to breweries and vineyards to taste local spirits. We would listen to live music and go skiing with our combined kids. And we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. It was a welcomed change from my past and I was embracing it fully. Maybe I had finally found a true partner? Just maybe. We had a significant age gap between us — I was born the year he joined the navy and shipped out to sea. He was in good physical shape and so exuberant though, that I often forgot about our wildly differing upbringings. I remember when we first got a family computer and fighting with my siblings for a turn to hop into an AOL chatroom. He was a full blown (no pun intended) adult, when he gotten his first home PC. But when he’d tell me he didn’t like my plaid pants because they reminded him of the 70s or when he’d be jamming to a band that I had never even heard of, I was painfully and bluntly reminded of the eighteen year difference between us. At first, it was easy to brush this aside and move on with our day. But after a few years passed, he reached a more difficult age. It was hard for him, or not hard (if you know what I mean). f
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
